So, our media partner bought a homepage takeover of Fox News on Election Day. At the time, it seemed like a golden opportunity to walk a fine line between poking some fun at the losing side while not blatantly laughing at them. Using Volvo's Overseas Delivery program (wherein you travel to Sweden to pick up your new car in person, then take a trip around Europe in it) as the vehicle, we alluded to the hordes of people promising to skip the country if their candidate didn't win but reframed it as a temporary opportunity for escape using an existing program.
In one of the rare instances of a client killing a project and being right about it, Volvo decided against running the ads at the last minute...thus relieving us from a bit of embarrassment. However, any real grief at the idea we loved being shelved was soon overshadowed by the devastating real life events that occurred that day.
